Lee was born in Kansas to Mildred and Bernard Chandler. He graduated high school from Ogemaw Heights High School, located in West Branch Michigan. After high school he joined the Air Force. He served for 15 years and made Tech Sergeant before being medically discharged due to kidney failure.

He never let anything with the disease stop him from doing things for his family. He loved to go camping, snowmobiling and just about any outdoor activity. He was very much a do it yourself kind of guy. He was an excellent father and an even better grandfather.

He was preceded in death by both his mother and father.

He is survived by his two sons and two daughters (Rebecca Bilot, Lee Chandler II, Taylor Chandler, and Staci Krusinga). He is also survived by his 7 grand children (Haley Schumann, Jonathan Chandler, Sharley Bilot, Adrey Bilot, Chandler Bilot, Aleeah Krusinga, and Quentin Chandler), his 5 sisters (Shelley Maleski, Tracey Weston, Terry Chandler, Lisa Chandler, and Donna Keith) and his brother (Larry Foster).
